AOC says no more punishment for relay team

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) will not impose any further sanctions on the Australian men's freestyle realy swim team for the use of the sleeping medicine Stilnox in the lead up to the 2012 London Olympics.  Swimming Australia issued six swimmers fines and a form of suspended sentence when they were accused of violation an AOC ban on Stilnox. The substance had been banned by the AOC weeks before the 2012 Games over dependency fears.

The six swimmers thad had been punished by Swimming Australia are James Magnussen, Eamon Sullivan, Matt Targett, James Roberts, Tommaso D'Orsogna and Cameron McEvoy. All but Roberts admitted to using Stilnox despite a ban in place by the AOC. Apart from using Stilnox the six swimmers were reported that they were waking teammates with prank calls and door knocking late in the evening during a pre-Olympic camp in Manchester last year.

AOC said in a statement read at a press conference that " The AOC considers that the financial sanction imposed by Swimming Australia is proportionate and sufficient in respect of each of those swimmers. Any further conduct which brings them or their sport into disperute or which is inconsistent with, or prejudicial to, the best interests, image or values of the AOC, is likely to render them ineligible for selection to the 2016 Australian Olympic Team".
