Aqua cycling

Aqua cycling is quite a new trend in the world of aqua fitness. As most of the aqua fitness programmes, it started from fitness studios but with more benefits than the original and with more categories of population to be able to use it. We all know that cycling and spinning classes help you improve your fitness levels as well as strengthen your legs, abs, and buttocks. However, people with back or joint issues will be hard to keep up with the rest of the group.

In aqua cycling bikes the peddles are attached to a wheel with paddles that push the water and you can add extra resistance by increasing your intensity. Participants can also involve their arms and strengthen the muscles of the arms, upper body, and back. It’s a great form of exercise for people with arthritis, muscle pain or bone pain because of the support (buoyancy) and pressure provided by the water that helps blood circulation to be improved and blood pressure to be reduced. Buoyancy also helps so there’s less strain on the joints and it keeps participants afloat and improves their posture, balance, flexibility and muscle relaxation.

Other benefits of aqua cycling are that the muscles produce less lactic acid due to the water related reduction in body temperature and to the massage effect provided by contact with the water.  Aqua cycling can also facilitate weight loss and improvement of muscle strength as well as of reduction of stress and improvement of sleeping patterns. Moreover, muscle pain is less and cellulite is reduced (something that women will love). Lastly, the active aquatic drainage serves to strengthen the vein network and to address various needs such as health, esthetics and physical fitness.
