More than 4,000 people that seek to become a volunteer
at Barcelona 2013 have already signed up for the 15th FINA World Championships.
The milestone was reached today, proving the great interest helpers have in
becoming part of the major sporting event, which is one of the biggest
international sporting events to be held this upcoming summer. The 15th FINA
World Championships Barcelona 2013 will be take place from 19 July to 4 August,
featuring six aquatic sports during 16 days of competition.
The volunteer recruitment campaign kicked
off on 11 September 2012. In less than five months, expectations of event
organisers regarding the number of volunteers have been surpassed. Initially,
Barcelona 2013 organisers estimated a number of 3,000 volunteers to be
necessary to cover the event.
While the number of registrations keeps
growing, members of the BCN2013 Volunteer Department have started to offer
general training sessions for the future volunteers, informing them about their
tasks at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium on the weekends.
Members of the Barcelona 2013 Organizing
Committee consider the work of volunteers indispensable to guarantee the
success of an event of this magnitude. During the World Championships, which
will be held at four competition venues, over 14,000 accredited people will
have to be attended at different locations (airport, hotels, village, MPC and
IBC, etc.).
